Should Illegal Immigrants Be Deported?

Should the illegal immigrant be punished and forced to leave USA for the crime of ‘illegal entry into the US’ or is the fault of the politicians and government agencies who permit immigrants into our country, without enforcing immigration laws? Immigration and deportation are two methods that have their good and bad points.  Let us try to understand in some more details the benefits and negatives of deportation.

Benefits of deportation:

Clearly, the primary benefit that U.S. will get from deportation of illegal immigrants remains the decrease of costs for their support, mainly from State welfare agencies. Also for every illegal immigrant’s child, the estimated costs are $5000 per year and that’s just for their education. Employment would skyrocket, as jobs open with each deported illegal immigrant being deported, resulting in a boost to the economy. But aside from the welfare and education costs, even greater benefits exist.  Examples are:

  • Since the children of illegal immigrants, become citizens of America automatically as they are born on American soil, are entitled to healthcare, with deportation the medical expenditure on these children will come down drastically. (Recently the Legislation has been considering changing the laws that authorize immediate citizenship for ‘anchor babies’).

  • The cost and provisions of illegal alien prison inmates in US jails and prisons will come down, with deportation.

  • Continuous costs of the government funded upkeep and maintenance of roads and highways used by illegal immigrants.

  • The added costs involved in border enforcement and airport security shall also decrease.

Negative effects of deportation:

Many Americans view illegal immigration as a serious problem in the US. Most think that it is a problem that will remain unresolved for many years if it can actually be solved.

Are there any benefits to permitting illegal immigrants to stay in USA? Realistically, there is no ‘benefit’ to permitting them to stay inside of USA.

In a recent poll, conducted by Fox news, the question posed was,  ‘In general, do you think immigrants who come to the US today help the country and make it a better place to live or hurt the country and make it a worse place to live?’

An astounding 42% of Americans polled, stated that they feel immigrants help the country to be a better place to live.

With the annual increase of illegal immigrants in USA, and no definite benefit from their presence, is there any practical solution for this explosion of illegal immigrants? Recommendations have been made to issue illegal immigrants permanent and/or at least temporary worker residency status to enable them to continue living and working in the US. Some other recommendations include deporting all illegal immigrants immediately. Even more have stated that illegal immigration is a crime and these unauthorized aliens should be punished under USA laws for their crimes of illegal entry. While all recommendations are at the very least, an attempt at a solution, all suggestions offer strong odds for failure. All leave too much unresolved issues, like the extra costs US taxpayers would incur. Regrettably, there appears to be no feasible solution in sight, yet.
